SEPTEMBER.................

September is here and it's time to start putting the cabin to bed for the winter.

The pots on the deck are emptied, scrubbed and sprayed with Clorox water and stored.

The canoe is under the deck and the paddle boat is under the tarp along with the playhouse.

The geese are going home with us this year along with several other irreplaceable items because of the fire danger. We're sure we'll all be back next year and many years after so hopefully it's a needless precaution.

I now have two lamppost gardens in the center of town. The one across the street from mine has been without a friend for two years and was looking pretty shabby. I had always admired it because it's the only one with roses and everyone wonders how they grow up here. . They seemed to have done well with benign neglect for awhile so we should get along fine. It did have about 40 little columbine starts which I removed and transplanted to the cabin.

Garden # 1 has done great this year-- I think it's been it's best year even though my alpine clematis died last winter. I've gathered all the poppy seeds but will wait a couple of weeks to mulch and do the winter stuff.

And thanks to Sage who kept me walking upright this summer.

DON'T YOU LOVE A LIBRARY BOOK SALE

So Many Books, So Little-----well you know how it goes.
Our wonderful library had their annual book sale in July and I think we sorted 5000+ books. Many full-time and part-time residents donate books frequently for this sale. These are some of the gems I bought.

Looks like a must try recipe to me.

GRAND COUNTY MUSEUM IN HOT SULPHUR SPRINGS

Made a trip recently to Hot Sulphur Springs to the County Museum. Had forgotten how much great stuff they have.

Mary Lyons Cairns was born in Ellsworth, Kansas in 1885. She came to Colorado in 1905 to visity her sister and decided to stay. A teaching position in Grand Lake was responsible for her meeting James Cairns who she married in 1907. From her first arrival in the town until her death in 1972 she was immersed in the pursuit of area history and was an ardent photographer. She wrote 2 fine, illustrated histories of the area and the county of which she was a highly respected citizen.

Turn of the Century Parlor

Old Telephone Switchboard --wish I had one of these for the playroom.

Two-story Outhouse-notice the ladder on the left side. This was to access it in the deep snow.

My school desks through grade school looked just like these

MY FIRST TRIP TO THE CABIN BY "MUDDY PUPPY"

We arrive-- 500 miles is a long way in a car seat. But I was sooooooo good.

If you look close you'll see my name "Muddy Puppy" on my shirt. Cute don't ya think.

Grandma said the ducks would come if she made strange sounds and they did, (and they were).

Dad likes to fish and caught 15+ but we only kept one.

Mom always brings fun games for everyone to play.

All my cousins LOVE ME !!

Grandma and I took lots of naps in the swing. O.K. sometimes Grandma played with the gameboy.

Just hang'in out
Look at those Colorado Clouds

LOVE IT WHEN THE GRANDKIDS COME

Most of them have visited this summer and these are the most recent.

I see a boat ride in the future

You really can get Hummingbirds to land on your finger while they eat. Our children started doing it when they were young and now their teaching their children. Feels like a tiny feather tickling your finger. We have had a lot of hummingbirds this summer.
